The PD40R has been around for a while, but Fenix is dropping an updated version – the Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight. Fenix makes some interesting and reliable flashlights, so an updated PD40R is a great thing!
Most notably about the PD40R V2.0 is the rotary control.
This dial around the head allows selection of modes by rotating the collar. Other lights also use this feature, and despite how intuitive and useful it is, rotary control remains rare.
This rotary control allows selection of five modes, including strobe.
Charging is updated too – the V2.0 uses USB-C charging, which if nothing else, is more convenient than micro-USB. It’s most likely faster, too.
Fenix chose a 21700 cell for the PD40R V2.0. An adapter is included for running 18650 cells, though.
The Fenix PD40R V2.0 flashlight is unsurprisingly made of aluminum, and has features that support good grip on the body.
Here are more technical specifications for the flashlight, including the modes and outputs. Turbo is an astounding 3000 lumens! The emitter appears to be a Luminus SST70. Coupled with the smooth deep reflector, performance and usability should be fantastic.
While the Fenix PD40R V2.0 has been out since SHOT show 2020, it’s a light that will likely be a favorite!
The Fenix PD40R V2.0 is available now at fenix-store.com.
